Most people tend to think of the neck as starting just below the head and finishing at the shoulders. From a Kinesiologist’s point of view, it is best to consider that the neck starts on the skull and goes all the way down to the waist, and that the shoulders from the Deltoid muscle to Deltoid muscle are part of the neck when it comes to structural, postural, and usage considerations.
So if you are suffering from a painful neck, or restricted movement, in that area, your Kinesiologist will consider all the muscles and balance them carefully.
Low Back Pain
Similarly, if you suffer low back pain, in the same way that the neck extends above and below the actual neck, so does the low back. The Pelvis is stabilised from above and below. Muscle testing is used to find the underlying weaknesses, strengthen these imbalances, and bring about relief to your back pain.
GUY ROPE PRINCIPLE
One the basic Kinesiology principles is that a weak muscle is causing the tight one to shorten. In Kinesiology testing therefore, we are seeking to test and find weak muscles, in order that the tight muscles may relax and lengthen.
When a weak muscle is found, it can be tested to establish why it is weak.
Systematic Kinesiology addresses the muscles which are the ones opposing those which are tight or in spasm. This means that in practice, when you see bunched up muscle fibres anywhere on the body, we look immediately at the opposing muscles and test them. For instance, Quadriceps/Hamstrings, left Upper Trapezius/right Upper Trapezius, Sacrospinalis/Abdominals. Whichever one is tight, we test the opposing one. If it tests weak, and we strengthen it, this often produces immediate relief which is noticeable to the client.
