Kinesiology (kin-esi-ology), is the study of movement, and Systematic Kinesiology applies tests to the muscles to test their function and as a feedback to other parts of the body.
A simple way to explain a muscle test is when it’s used as a diagnostic or a way to uncover what’s going on with the body itself. When a muscle is tested, ie pressure is applied to an arm or a leg, the client is able to either meet that pressure or not. If the muscle is not strong and tests weak, it may causing pain or may leave you more prone to injury.
There is the belief that in order to strengthen muscles, you have to do exercise like lifting weights. But if the control mechanisms are “blocked”, the channels that feed nutrients to the muscle, or which take away the toxins, then lifting weights or exercising can actually do more damage than good.
Kinesiology uses a series of reflexes that will help the body to achieve a more balanced body.
When you are muscle tested you get an individualised, tailored programme. Your practitioner tests to identify which systems are blocked, which muscles are weak or too tight, and will seek to find the underlying causes. Most common health issues that people struggle with are to be found in lifestyle. This is good news, as it means that with a few small tweaks you can feel better faster.
Back pain, digestive problems, headaches and low energy can be caused by poor diet. A Systematic Kinesiologist will for example, likely test you for the common, everyday foods that you eat, and help support your digestive tract, though avoidance of certain foods, nutrition supplementation to address deficiencies, and make diet recommendations.
So don’t beat yourself up with guilt. Let go of the idea that change can be hard. Be gentle on yourself and embrace Kinesiology to help make change easier. If you are interested in visiting with a practitioner, the Association of Systematic Kinesiology has a listing here
Kinesiology is a beautiful therapy that is respectful of where you are now. By testing the body, the practitioner is able to work with what you want to work with, continuously ensuring that the right course is being followed. Nothing is forced upon you as you are completely at choice, always.
