New Year Resolutions

by Siobhan Guthrie on 1 January, 2012

Well another year has come and gone! Being 1st January, you’re probably starting to think about what you’re going to do differently in the coming 12 months and how to make it better. If you are making a few resolutions today here is my twist on ensuring they stay with you for a lot longer than a couple days, or even hours.

A resolution comes about because we have a sense, a feeling that something in our life could be better. Change is a natural desire but not always easy. You talk about the results you want to have instead, and set these as goals to reach and aspire to and feel motivated to achieve … TODAY!

Commonly, you may start by looking at what you don’t want in your life, what you want to change. It could be related to health, fitness, personal growth, or something better for yourself and your family. Start by defining what each goal means to you. Take a piece of paper and write down 3 results you’d like to have in a month’s time, 6 months time and 12 months time.

Another way to do it is to dream, and dream big – if money, responsibilities and other commitments were not an issue – that if you could wave a magic wand – what would you wish for. Again write down three things you’d like to have done, experienced, and accomplished in 2012.

But the problem with all that is it’s living in the future. It’s not about the here and now. We live moment by moment, making choices consciously and unconsciously all the time. All that matters is what we do now, this second. By all means have a strong goal– in fact the stronger the better as it can pull us through the tough times.

But at the same time if it is too far fetched we can lose touch with it. Also its important to make sure the goal you are working for is something you really want, not just something that sounds good and these are major reasons that resolutions fail so quickly. Many New Year’s Resolutions are more likely to be whims, I wishs, impulses, and not real, unshakable decisions.

So if you would like 2012 to BE your year and to ensure your resolutions are unshakable then here is my tip to keep you on track and refocus your focus.

If your “traditional” resolution is to “get fit” to take an example, then

(a) define what that means to you, what getting fit actually means to you, and then

(b) write down and commit to what needs to change on a daily basis. You see, walking 10 minutes a day is much more beneficial and more likely to work, than say saving it all up and walking 70 minutes once a week.

An activity we do on a daily basis is much more likely to become a habit, become automatic, a part of you, and when it becomes a habit you won’t have to “talk yourself into it”. It is these simple actions that will accumulatively propel you towards your goal. Focus on the action rather than the result. If you re-define your New Year’s Resolution to something simple, like walking 10 minutes a day (the positive action), rather than getting fit (the positive result), over time the result will happen anyway.

So ask youself, what simple (yes really) things can I do daily that will make a difference accumulatively.

You will not see the results straight away but making a commitment, a resolution to the daily action, will mean the results will come.

Put your positive actions on paper and pin it somewhere you can see it too!

You see nothing changes until something changes, otherwise it stays the same!  Without a plan and some simple daily actions this year could end up pretty much the same as 2011.  Go out there and do something!

The Balanced Health Foundation Course

by Siobhan Guthrie on 9 March, 2011

Do you feel drawn to help people with their health?

Hundreds of students throughout Ireland have trained with us and made a difference in the lives of many people because of their new found knowledge and skills in kinesiology.

They say that life without health is no life at all. And while you may have your health there are many who don’t.  If you’ve been drawn to help yourself and others with their health there is no greater calling.  For some it means going into the medical profession, but I know that for many the holistic field is more to their taste.

When you do what you love every day, it shows.  I’m sure you seen someone who’s miserable in their job, can’t wait for the clock to strike “closing time”, and they’re out of there.  And in contrast when you see someone who’s following their life’s passion: they glow, are fun to be around, exude health, optimism, and have so much energy.

Well anyone attracted to our Balanced Health Kinesiology courses are great people to be around and throughout the course, your instructor is there to help build your confidence in your new skills.  We want our students to be happy students and happy practitioners.

TASK Ireland have two courses starting soon:

BELFAST – 26-27 March

Kieran Haughey

TASK Instructor for Northern Ireland

The Balanced Health Health Kinesiology training course is starting in Belfast at the end of March, with Kieran Haughey instructo.  Kieran discovered Systematic Kinesiology as a result of a back injury in 1999, and was lined up for back surgery, even though the x-rays didn’t show anything, the Doctors said “we’ll go in anyway” – Kieran thought “No you WILL NOT”. As a direct result of SK treatments he was free from back pain within 3 weeks. Astounded by this result he decided to learn Kinesiology. Realising how powerful Kinesiology was, he wanted to share this with as many others as possible and became an instructor 10 years ago – giving up a job of 18 years.

Caroline McGrath

TASK Instructor in Drogheda

DROGHEDA – 16-17 April

And we also have the four level Balanced Health Kinesiology course start in Drogheda on 16-17 April, with Caroline McGrath, instructor.  Caroline is one of our newer instructors and has been busy building her practice in Drogheda. We are delighted to have Caroline join our team as she has been inspired to teach as well as treat, and I know you will enjoy her gentle presenting style.

What will I learn?

During the course you will learn many things.  Some things you might not even first associate with a Kinesiology course.  And that’s the feeling of security you’ll experience – the feeling that you’re in the right place – you’ll know you’re making a positive change in your life and those around you.

  • Frequently, students arrive in on a Saturday morning looking a bit tired after a week’s work, but with ALL the mini-treatments they get in the practice session they go out feeling full of energy and vitality.
  • There is an amazing amount of personal development and self-growth that students gain during the course.  This inspires their lives and their family’s life in more ways than can be described.
  • Student’s self-esteem levels usually go quite high, because they can see the difference they can make to those around them.
  • Student’s are eagerly learning something they want to know more about, so class isn’t like a classroom, it is with like minded people coming together and learning for the joy of learning how to improve health and wellness in those around us.
  • Kinesiology is not just about the physical body, it’s the whole person therapy in one. You will be guided on how to treat the whole person to bring about the greatest benefit to each person.
  • Kinesiology addresses the 4 Realms of our being, our physical being, the emotional being, the chemical composition of our being and the energy that drives our being.
  • This course will help you deal with major issues in people’s lives in a non-intrusive, practical, safe, drug-free and effective way that will help change peoples lives.
  • You will understand we are more than just physical beings and that is reflected in the teaching and philosophy of the course. This is something that can’t be taught from a text book; it must be shared and experienced.
  • The entire course is geared towards learning natural, safe, effective drug-free techniques that can be used on people of all ages, in a non-intrusive way.
  • You will see that emotional problems can be resolved without lots of “talking it out” or going through painful memories.
  • With this training you will see an improvement in your health and that of your family and friends and clients as a fully qualified practitioner.
  • Understanding the mind-body-spirit connection comes easily with this course.

Back pain – GONE

My long term back pain went during the foundation course. I did the Summer School Balanced Health course, – at the beginning I could hardly get off the massage couch I was in so much pain. After Kieran worked on me, I was able to climb Croagh Patrick before the end of the week, Frankie Kelly, Carlow
